Touchscreen technology types:

1. Vector pressure sensing (obsolete).

2. Infrared (low cost, fragile frame, light interference, distortion on curved surfaces).

3. Capacitive (good design concept, but image distortion issues hard to resolve).

4. Resistive (accurate positioning, but expensive and prone to scratches).

5. Surface acoustic wave (clear, durable, suitable for various environments; however, water or dust on the screen can cause sluggish response or failure).

The Mitsubishi GT1265-VNBA is an 8.4-inch touchscreen model from the GOT1000 series, designed as a basic yet highly functional human-machine interface (HMI) with a larger physical footprint to accommodate integrated communication capabilities and expanded onboard memory. Featuring a TFT color display with a VGA resolution of 640 × 480 pixels, the screen supports 256 colors or more, providing clear and stable visual output for industrial applications. The unit is panel-mountable and comes in a black housing, powered by an AC100–240V power supply.

Equipped with a user storage capacity of 6 MB, the GT1265-VNBA includes a built-in RS-422 interface, along with standard Ethernet, RS-422/485, and RS-232 communication ports. It also features a USB Device interface for data transfer and firmware updates. The touch panel employs analog resistive technology, which is known for its accurate touch detection and reliable performance in various industrial environments.

From a technical perspective, touchscreen technologies can be classified into five basic types: vector pressure sensing, resistive, capacitive, infrared, and surface acoustic wave. Vector pressure sensing technology is now obsolete. Infrared touchscreens are cost-effective but suffer from fragile bezels, susceptibility to light interference, and distortion on curved surfaces. Capacitive touchscreens offer a well-designed structure but face persistent challenges with image distortion. Resistive touchscreens, like the one used in the GT1265-VNBA, provide precise touch positioning but are relatively expensive and vulnerable to scratches and damage. Surface acoustic wave touchscreens overcome many of these limitations by offering excellent clarity and durability, making them suitable for a wide range of environments. However, their performance can be degraded by moisture or dust on the screen surface, which may cause sluggish response or complete failure.
